Morrison Piano Studio Policy
Welcome to the Morrison Piano Studio! My goal is to provide a well-rounded musical education at the piano to all my students through a curriculum that includes technique, theory, eartraining, improvisation, and collaborative performance.
Tuition
Tuition includes:
-Your personal lesson time that is reserved only for you each week
School-age students are enrolled for the school year on a tuition basis starting August 13, 2017 –June 1. 2018 . Summer lessons are on a flexible per-lesson basis to accommodate camps and vacations schedules. Tuition this year is based upon a 32 week teaching year. The total is averaged over 9 months.
30 minute lessons ($29 per lesson)
Monthly tuition for 9 months - $97
45 minute lessons ($42 per lesson)
Monthly tuition for 9 months - $145
60 minute lessons ($58 per lesson)
Monthly tuition for 9 months - $194
Students who join the studio in the middle of the semester will have their payments prorated. This means that monthly payments will be calculated based on the remaining weeks in the teaching year.
Registration Fee
A required annual registration fee of $100 holds a reserved time for the 2018-2019 school year. This fee covers recital fees, music books and festival fees throughout the year. If the student exhausts the fee before the end of the year, additional individual items will be invoiced. Parents are always welcome to audit their enrollment fee to see where funds are dispersed.
Make-up Lessons
Please note that I only charge students for 30 weeks out of a 36 week teaching year. This means that your tuition allows for two absences per year due to illness or vacation dates that do not correlate with the JPS calendar. Please note that attendance records will be kept this year.
In case of additional absences, students can make up the missed lesson by swapping lessons with another student. Students may swap lessons as much as they would like. I will give all students a “swap list” that will contain contact information of other students. This swap is the sole responsibility of the student and parents. Please do not request that I make these calls, but do notify me of the changes.
Exceptions: No refunds are given for missed lessons except for the following circumstances:
1. Hospitalization
2. Death in the family
3. Religious Holiday
My Cancellations: If I cancel a lesson, I will credit payment of the lesson towards the next month (or term if the term was paid in full), or make up the lesson. If I miss a lesson in the final term of lessons for a student, I will make up the lesson or issue a refund.
Snow/weather emergencies: In the case of weather emergencies (i.e. school cancellation of the area) and travel is dangerous, lessons will be rescheduled.
Vacations: I give breaks for Thanksgiving, Winter Holidays, Labor Day, 4th of July, and Memorial Day. I will also give time off in the summer (2 or more weeks). These breaks are factored into tuition rates. For this reason, you can expect to receive anywhere from 3 to 5 lessons per month; however monthly tuition rates will always remain the same. Exact dates will be sent prior to those times.
TARDINESS:
I expect my students to arrive on time. If you are late do not expect me to go over your allotted time slot. All students are carefully scheduled and other students may be waiting.
SUMMER LESSONS:
All students are highly encouraged to take at least 4 piano lessons total during the months of June, July, and August. Students will be billed on a per lesson basis for the lessons they are required to take during these months. Students who fail to take at least 4 lessons during these summer months may lose their place in the studio or be listed as last priority when scheduling for the upcoming school year.
MUSIC:
As stated above, the cost of music is included in the tuition fee. Although, I keep copies of all method books used by my students in the studio, it is of the utmost importance that students make a consistent effort to bring their lesson, theory, rep and assignment book to each lesson.
RECITALS/FESTIVALS AND FEES:
Student participation in recitals is a necessary part of the process of goal setting in piano lessons and piano practice. Monthly musicales held by the Denver Area Music Teachers’ Association as well as seasonal recitals provide frequent performance opportunities. As stated above, fees for these events are included in tuition fees. Dates for these events will be published in the newsletter, calendar, website, and posted in the studio.
Besides these performance opportunities, students are highly encouraged to participate in at least one of the following events:
National Federation of Music Clubs Festival
Student Theory Activity
Rising Stars Festival
Sonatina Festival
Fees for these activities range from $10 - $90 per event and are NOT included in the tuition fee.
Communications
Communication between us is important. I communicate primarily by email and will check frequently for messages. If you forget upcoming vacations, performance dates, or other information, check either my studio’s website (www.morrisonpianostudio.com) or my emailed newsletter each month for students’ kudos, reminders of musicales, calendar updates, etc. You may reach me via email ([email protected] ) or phone at (303) 548-4359. All requests for time or date changes must be sent by email!
My new studio administration website sends out automated weekly lesson reminders. Please let me know, If you do not wish to receive these emails.
Also, if you change your address or phone number, please send the updated information to me as soon as possible. I will check for messages frequently, but will not interrupt students’ lessons to take calls.
Visits
Parents are always welcome to sit in on lessons at any time. Young beginners definitely need a parent there for the first few lessons in order to learn how best to help the child. Older students may resist having a parent sit in, so you might ask your child for his/her preferences.
TERMINATION OF LESSONS:
I will suggest terminating lessons only in exceptional circumstances such as 1)rude or defiant behavior 2) missing too many lessons 3) consistent late payment of tuition or 4) consistent lack of practicing/parental support. Before action is taken due to these situations parents will be duly notified and all issues will be fully discussed.
In the event that you must stop lessons, I ask for one month’s notice so that I may finish lessons on a positive note and subsequently fill the vacancy in my studio. If you notify me before the 15th of the month, you are obligated to pay only the current month’s remaining tuition, without refund. Or, if you give me last-minute notice past the 15th of the month, you are also obligated to pay the following month’s tuition.
For Your Information
Tuition pays for more than just the lesson time. It also includes preparation time which varies from week to week and from student to student. Included also, is time continually spent surveying music and techniques which are appropriate for each student’s success. Additional time is spent with teacher activities, meetings and conferences. My training goes back to the age of seven and my experience in teaching represents over 10 years. All of these have significant benefit to each student’s lesson and are reflected in the rate of tuition.
Students are sometimes not aware that my teaching methods continually improve over the years as I go to various conferences and continue study on my own. This improvement, combined with my steadily increasing years of experience in playing and teaching, makes me a better teacher year after year. Improvement in the quality of my teaching gives you more value over the years.
